X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has introduced a message editing feature for iOS users. This long-awaited feature allows users to edit messages that have already been sent, enabling corrections of typos or even adding new details after hitting send.

Editing Your Messages: A New Era on X

The message editing feature is available for iOS users and is being rolled out to other platforms soon. Users have no time limit to edit messages after sending them, meaning they can correct mistakes in messages sent hours, days, or even weeks ago. However, there is a limit of five edits per message, both for DMs and public posts.

Transparency and Limitations

While X keeps a record of edited messages for security reasons, users currently cannot see the edit history or previous versions of edited messages. This is different from other applications that allow users to access message edit history, making it impossible to track changes made to a message.

How to Edit Messages on X

Here's how to use the message editing feature on X for iOS users:

1. Open a direct message (DM) conversation in the X app.

2. Long-press the sent message or click the three-dot menu next to the message.

3. Select the "Edit Message" option to modify the sent message.

4. After making the changes, click "Save" to update the message.

How does X handle the record of edited messages?

X keeps a record of edited messages for security reasons, but currently, users cannot see the edit history or previous versions of edited messages.

What is the limitation of the edit feature on X?

While users can edit messages sent long ago, they have a limit of five edits per message.

What are some other applications that have a message editing feature?

Other chat apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal, and Messenger, have had this feature for a while. Apple has also added the ability to edit messages in iMessage since iOS 16.

How can iOS users edit messages on X?

Users can edit messages by long-pressing the sent message or clicking the three-dot menu next to the message and selecting "Edit Message". They can then make changes and click "Save" to update the message.

What platforms will the edit feature be available on in the future?

An engineer at X confirmed that the feature will be coming to other platforms soon.

A New Era of Communication on X

The introduction of message editing on X brings the platform closer to other chat apps like WhatsApp and Telegram, offering users more control over their communication. This feature is a welcome addition to X, improving user experience and providing a more flexible way to interact with others.
